Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind Helldivers 2, has disclosed plans to expand its team, aiming to supply bigger content updates for the popular co-op shooter. However, a PvP mode will not be featured in the game, for a specific reason.
“Due to the success of Helldivers 2, we intend to seek out new talented developers to help us expedite update releases and make them more substantial,” tweeted Johan Pilestedt, the head of the studio and creative director of the project. “We’ll post job openings soon, but if you’re a senior specialist, there’s always room for you. Join the Arrowhead Game Studios team today.”
The developer hasn’t disclosed specific plans concerning the future development of the shooter. Following a troubled launch, the team resolved to address technical issues – four patches have been released with enhancements to stability, player matchmaking system, server-side operations, and bug and crash fixes. Besides, the authors have expanded maximum server capacity noting that this still isn’t enough to accommodate the influx of players. Pilestedt earlier assured that the creators are “obsessed with making Helldivers 2 the best co-op game ever”.
Regardless, none of the future updates will introduce a PvP mode. “We will never add a PvP mode,” Pilestedt promised. “This decision relates to our ambition to lower toxicity levels within our community. We desire a fun-friendly environment where all players fight on the same side”.
“We’re not afraid of implementing PvP,” Pilestedt responded to one of the dissenting users. “We just don’t want to encounter toxic user behavior inherent in that mode. There are lots of games (actually, the majority) that offer a PvP component. We make games for those who want to overcome challenges together with friends, but in a PvE format. If you want PvP, I recommend Escape from Tarkov.”
Helldivers 2 was released on 8th February for PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5. The shooter sold over a million copies in the first three days. It recorded highest revenue in the Steam store in terms of weekly records, with the number of concurrent users continuing to climb (surpassing the 200,000 mark yesterday). The platform’s user rating, based on 41,000 reviews, stands at 78%.
