“Date of Release Revealed in New Trailer for Old-School Horror, Conscript, based on the Events of the Verdun Massacre: A Rendezvous with Death”

Independent Australian developer, Jordan Mochi, with the support of publisher Team17, has announced the release date of his retro-style horror game, Conscript, based on the era of World War I.

Mochi began work on Conscript in early 2017. Funded through Kickstarter during the summer of 2020, the game gained the support of Team17 in August of the following year. Initially set for a mid-2023 release, the launch was later postponed to 2024.

As now confirmed, Conscript will be available for purchase from July 23 of this year for PC (Steam, GOG, EGS), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, S, and Nintendo Switch. The announcement was accompanied by a trailer titled “Rendezvous with Death”.

In conjunction with the announcement, pre-orders for Conscript have started on Steam. However, in Russia, the game is unavailable as Team17 had suspended operations in the country back in 2022.

In the U.S., the cost of Conscript on Steam is priced at $20 for the standard edition, $24 for the extended edition which includes a set of alternative skins, and $27 for the officer’s edition that comes with a set of skins and soundtrack.

Conscript is set in 1916 amid the Battle of Verdun. A lone French soldier embarks on a mission to uncover his missing brother, solving intricate puzzles and battling for survival.

The game features Resident Evil and Silent Hill-inspired gameplay, multiple endings, a “unique pixel-art design and ominous sound design”, as well as Russian localization. A new demo has been included as part of the June “Games to be” festival on Steam.
