“Forgotten Memories Flood Back”: Modder Transfers Vizima from the First “Witcher” to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

While the release of CD Projekt Red’s remake of the original “The Witcher” is still a few years away, fans can already get a glimpse into the reinterpretation thanks to mod editor, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Using CD Projekt Red’s modification editor REDkit, a Nexus Mods user operating under the pseudonym AngryCatster has succeeded in transferring several locations from the first “The Witcher” to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The The Witcher 1 Maps mod integrates parts of the city of Vizima—namely the dam, merchant and temple districts, as well as Old Vizima—into a single seamless level. These areas were previously separated by loading screens in The Witcher.

The 17-year-old game locations see a modern revival in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt thanks to the REDkit. The updated textures and lighting breathe new life into familiar scenes.

Despite having not spent a considerable amount of time or effort on the mod, AngryCatster admits there are some imperfections, such as flawed textures, geometry, and the potential to fall through the map.

Despite the rough edges, users are impressed with AngryCatster’s work and intrigued by the potentials of REDkit. One appreciative player, OutcastPhantom, thanked the modder, commenting: “I’m overwhelmed by the nostalgia. Thanks for your effort.”

The REDkit was released on May 21st and is available exclusively for PC via Steam, GOG, and EGS. The editor, which is based on The Witcher 3 development tools, is free for all game purchasers.
