Intel Unveils New Local AI-powered Image Generator at Computex 2024
Computex 2024, the annual technology show, held this week has showcased a plethora of new hardware and software releases. Among them, Intel’s AI Playground stands out as one of the notable introductions. Intel’s latest offering is an image generator powered by a generative neural network and intriguingly does not require cloud computing power, functioning strictly on a local user’s computer.
The AI Playground application, designed for Windows devices, requires the robust Intel Core Ultra processor which includes an integrated artificial intelligence (AI) co-processor (NPU) for AI task acceleration. In addition, it requires an embedded Intel Arc graphic or a discrete Intel graphics card with a minimum 8GB video memory.
Another cogent feature of the AI Playground, which is set to be available for download later this summer, is its freely accessible utilization. In Intel’s statement, it asserts AI Playground is not envisaged as a replacement for the many profound AI-based projects and applications but a simplified means to introduce AI work to users.
The application installs as a usual Windows app, sporting a user-friendly interface. Interacting with various functionalities, such as image generation or editing, is dispatched through tab navigation located at the workspace’s top. To create an image, one need only enter a textual description and initiate the generation process. Extension in terms of image quality and resolution modification capabilities have been integrated, with additional editing options available to users.
Answer, a comprehensive language model, forms the core of the application. While the current capacities of AI Playground may not be highly impressive, its ability to function locally is a significant selling point. The local operation denotes that developers will not have access to the user-created content or the textual prompts utilized in the generation process. Moreover, the free application use will appeal to users venturing into image making with AI technology.
