At Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the tech giant announced a range of developments for its mobile operating system, iOS 18. Most notably, the popular messaging app iMessage will integrate satellite technology.
This key enhancement means iPhone 14 smartphone users and those with later models can send and receive text messages, stickers, and reactions, even without cellular or Wi-Fi connection, a feature highly beneficial for people living in remote or inaccessible locations with limited traditional network coverage, reports The Verge.
Apart from the satellite communication feature, iMessage will also offer additional useful functionalities. These include scheduling messages to send at specified times, responding using stickers, and extended text formatting options like bold, italics, underlining, and strikethrough.
iOS 18 also promises upgrades concerning privacy and security. For instance, it may require added user authentication to access certain apps and services. Moreover, users can expect more flexible interface customisation, including altering the placement and appearance of app icons.
