New Modes, Challenges and Story Expansion: Ubisoft Reveals Support Plan for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

The French publisher, Ubisoft, is well-known for its Metroidvania game, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which, rumor has it, could not generate significant sales. Despite these rumors, Ubisoft doesn’t seem to be intending to abandon this project and has, in fact, announced its plan to continue supporting this game with new content for the next few months.

On March 20th, Ubisoft will release a content patch for the game named Warrior’s Path. This update will introduce two modes (one geared towards speedrunners and the other featuring permadeath) and alternate skins for the main character.

Further enhancements are set to roll out before the end of Spring, inclusive of a free upgrade, Boss Attack. This upgrade will incorporate a Boss-Marathon mode (allowing for consecutive boss fights) and an additional batch of costumes for Sargon.

Slated for release in summer is another update, Divine Trials. This includes additional challenges (combat, platform, puzzles), amulets, skins for Sargon, and more unspecified features.

Lastly, by the end of 2024, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will receive a paid story extension. The details of this plot addition remain under wraps but Ubisoft promises to reveal more in the near future.

In the story, the Persian Prince Hassan is captured, sparking a pursuit up Mount Kaf by his seven bodyguards, known as the “Immortals”. Players will take the role of one of the unit members, the master swordsman, Sargon.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was released on January 18th, available on the PC (Ubisoft Connect, EGS), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, S, and Nintendo Switch. The game was well-received, obtaining high ratings (84-88%), however, it is rumored to have weak initial sales (around 300,000 copies).
