Phantom Fury is Coming Soon: Release Date on Steam and Explosive Trailer for the Ion Fury Retro Shooter Sequel Revealed

Publisher 3D Realms and developer Slipgate Ironworks, soon to separate from the Embracer Group conglomerate, have unveiled the release date of their retro shooter Phantom Fury, a sequel to Voidpoint’s Ion Fury.

Recall that Phantom Fury was initially announced in the fall of 2022 with an expected 2023 release. However, the development got extended and by last September’s demo launch, no release date was being mentioned.

In a recent announcement, it was revealed that Phantom Fury will hit the market on April 23, exclusively for PCs, available on Steam. Versions for PS5, Xbox Series X, S, and Nintendo Switch are also under development but their release dates have not yet been specified.

Along with the release date, developers also announced that a public demo version of Phantom Fury featuring the Crater Bar level would be presented at PAX East 2024, scheduled to take place in Boston from March 21 to 24.

The announcement was accompanied by an explosive 90-second gameplay trailer showcased during The Mix x Kinda Funny Spring Showcase presentation. The trailer can be viewed below.

The plot of Phantom Fury takes place many years after the conclusion of Ion Fury. Shelly ‘Bombshell’ Harrison wakes up from a coma with a new bionic arm and a task—to secure the mighty ‘Demon Core’ artifact.

Shelly must overcome her past to save humanity. The game promises a fusion of action and road movie elements, an incredibly interactive world, a vast array of enemies, over 20 types of weapons.
