Physicians to get wireless access for their Pocket PC’s

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.–July 7, 2004–MercuryMD, a healthcare-focused software company that provides hospitals with mobile technology solutions, today announced that Bayfront Health System in St. Petersburg, Florida will deploy the MData(R) Enterprise System to provide its physicians with wireless access to clinical data from their mobile devices.

With MData, physicians practicing at Bayfront can use their palmOne or Pocket PC handhelds to wirelessly access a variety of patient data. In addition, whether physicians are on or off campus, they can use a cellular smartphone or a Wi-Fi enabled device with Internet connectivity to securely access the hospital’s clinical data.

“We intend to drastically improve the day-to-day workflow of our physicians and save them time,” said John McLendon, Vice President and CIO at Bayfront Health System. “MData will provide our physicians secure, simple, and up-to-date access to comprehensive patient information when and where they need it – whether they are at the hospital, at their office, at home or somewhere in between. When critical data are processed by our Cerner Millennium system, physicians using MData will have immediate mobile access to those critical results.”

In conjunction with a complete network upgrade initiative, Bayfront thoroughly evaluated the emerging solutions of the mobile marketplace. They participated in comparative technology demonstrations, reviewed corporate product roadmaps, analyzed maturity of strategic vision, and conducted dozens of interviews with physicians and hospital executives across the country who have implemented mobile solutions.

“We performed what seemed like an inordinate amount of due diligence, but we felt it was necessary given the newness of this technology and the way it would interact with our physicians and current technical environment,” said Lisa Roth, Manager, Clinical Informatics at Bayfront Health System. “Our system selection process objectively ranked MercuryMD highest in most categories. In addition, the company is ranked ‘Best in KLAS’ in the 2003 Year-End KLAS Vendor Report in the Specialty Niche category, it has a solid and loyal customer base, and a successful implementation and support model.”

Bayfront is the 48th health system nationally to deploy the MData Enterprise System. MercuryMD’s customers represent 124 hospitals across the country.
