Renowned insider Tom Henderson confirmed the recent rumors of an impending announcement of a new Doom game in an exclusive report for his website, Insider Gaming, also unveiling initial details of the game.
Previously, Tom Warren, senior editor at The Verge, hinted at an upcoming Doom presentation at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. The Eurogamer editorial team also heard rumors of the project’s display at the event.
From Henderson’s sources, the new installment of the hellish shooters series from Bethesda Softworks-owned studio id Software will indeed be presented at Xbox Games Showcase 2024.
The title “Doom Year Zero”, which leaked last fall in secret Microsoft documents, according to Henderson, is a codename/temporary. In truth, the new game is dubbed “Doom: The Dark Ages” and has been in development for at least four years.
In 2023, Henderson learned that the next Doom drew inspiration from the Middle Ages. The insider suggested that The Dark Ages could be a prequel that takes players back to the medieval youth of the Doom Slayer.
The Xbox Games Showcase 2024 will take place on the evening of June 9, beginning at 8:00 PM Moscow time. It’ll be possible to follow the developments through YouTube, Twitch, and other platforms.
Apart from the new Doom, announcements for Gears 6, Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Starfield: Shattered Space are expected at the show. Furthermore, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be showcased right after the event.
