Samsung Plans to Discontinue Support of Tizen OS by 2025
Following its transition to Wear OS for smart watches, Samsung has ceased to produce wearable devices operating on Tizen OS. The Galaxy Watch 3, introduced in 2020, was the last product based on Tizen. It has now come to light that the South Korean manufacturer intends to completely abandon all future developments on the Tizen platform.
According to a Reddit user, Samsung has begun the process of informing its user base of its plans to discontinue work on Tizen OS by the end of 2025. Samsung’s decision to terminate support for the platform will take place in a phased manner.
In the announcement, a probable member of the Galaxy Store Operations team published a screenshot of a timeline for the discontinuation of Tizen support. According to this timeline, as of September 30, 2024, the Galaxy Store will cease the sale of paid content for Tizen watches, including apps, watch faces, and other items. Exactly one year later, on September 30, 2025, the Galaxy Store will deny access to any content for Tizen OS, effectively terminating Samsung’s support for all smart watches operating on the platform.
Samsung also clarified that “core services related to these watches (with Tizen OS) will stop functioning everywhere, except in the Galaxy Store,” after May 2025.
