The free-to-play platform fighting game MultiVersus, developed by Player First Games, is set to make a comeback following an offline period of 11 months after an open beta run last summer.
The beta version of MultiVersus was available from July 26, 2022, to June 25, 2023. Despite two content seasons under its belt, the game saw a more than 99% audience drop in Steam, promising a grand return in early 2024 with a full release.
As announced, the final version of MultiVersus is scheduled for release on May 28 for PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S. Tony Huynh, head of development, breaks down in the video below what gamers can expect.
Firstly, the full release of MultiVersus will be upgraded to Unreal Engine 5 and will feature a new network code, for which the game has been completely revamped. High performance is promised regardless of the platform.
Secondly, Huynh promises a PvE mode with unique rewards, new locations, and characters-introducing teasers of Marvin the Martian, content from “Naughty Toons”, “Super Girls” and “Dexter’s Lab”.
MultiVersus allows players to control characters from various Warner Bros. franchises in battles that give new meaning to the phrase ‘fight to the death’. Project’s audience exceeds 20 million people.
Although the beta version earned mostly positive reviews initially, negative criticism grew over time due to reasons such as slow content release, arena scarcity, an abundance and expense of paid items, and issues with mechanics and balance.
