The Creators of Dead by Daylight hit by second wave of layoffs in 2024 — nearly 100 more employees are laid off

In another wave of layoffs for 2024, Canadian publisher and game developer Behaviour Interactive, known for their asymmetrical horror-action game Dead by Daylight, recently dismissed several employees soon after incorporating lich Vekna from Dungeons & Dragons into their game.

In a statement, Behaviour Interactive confirmed that as part of their future growth plan, they have decided to implement “strategic changes” resulting in the layoff of “up to 95 employees,” including 70 based out of Montreal. This number represents approximately 7% of their total workforce of 1300 people.

The outlined changes at Behaviour Interactive aim to strengthen their corporate structure and allocate resources efficiently across production, business development, and marketing.

These measures are expected to enable Behaviour Interactive to focus on their historically strong areas, including horror games and production experience, amidst “unprecedented competition” in the market.

As pointed out by IGN, earlier this year in January, Behaviour Interactive laid off around 45 employees from their Montreal office, attributing the action to unpredictable market conditions.

Nevertheless, in March, Behaviour Interactive acquired multimedia company Fly Studio. In 2023, the company purchased SockMonkey Studios, Codeglue, opened a division in Cornwall, and in 2022, they took over Midwinter Entertainment and established a Toronto office.

Dead by Daylight is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. The game has a global audience of over 60 million players. On June 3, a crossover with the Dungeons & Dragons franchise began in the game.
