Getting Bluetooth to do what I need it to Hi. I have a 4355 iPaq. Has WiFi and Bluetooth. I need a real bluetooth guru…one who really knows his/her stuff. What i want to do is simple…use bluetooth earpiece/headset to do voice with Skype on my iPaq. I have the regular bluetooth software that comes as part of Mobile Windows (Pocket PC) 2003 that came with the iPaq and the ROM upgrade a couple of months ago. I can’t seem to find a menu that will let me make an audio connection with the bluetooth. I am assuming I can, as without it, there would be limited bluetooth functionality, but can’t find it. I want to buy a bluetooth headset, be able to hook my iPaq into Skype via WiFi and then use my iPaq as a phone. But my iPaq has terrible sound when using the microphone and skype plus an earbud. (strange, because it has much better sound when just using it as a voice recorder … same microphone). I am ASSUMING that the bluetooth headset would work better. So, am I the onlyone to use the 4155 and 4355 with Skype?? Any suggestions? thanks. mark

By the way, the Skype telephone transmission works fine with a desktop computer and its speakers and cheap microphone. But I want to use the iPaq. HELP!

I had an Ericsson HB35 headset and was ready to give it a try on with Skype, but then I couldn’t load Skype (for whatever reason). I’ve now since performed a Hard Reset (Ouch!), and can now install Skype. However, I have also just recently lost the headset, so I am waiting to save up enough $$$ to buy a replacement.

Maybe in the meantime, someone else here can offer their suggestions?

So Mark – as you know I use the Motorola HS810 headset for Skype on both my 4700 and my PC. I almost gave up on my PC as there were no audi headset services thru bluetooth but then I found an update to the bluetooth software which had the audio headset bluetooth profile. This is what you need on your 4150 and if it doesn’t show audio headset under bluetooth services and there isn’t a ROM update to provide this bluetooth service then you may be out of luck. It seems that just having bluetooth doesn’t mean you have all bluetooth functions. Though I think it would be really good to hear from a real bluetooth expert on this subject…. Regards,

Talkk to you soon via skype once I have peace and quiet…..

I haven’t made the move to PPC 2003, so is there any way to access the HS810 under PPC2002?

PPC 2002 will work with a Bluetooth headset. But, Skype does not work with PPC 2002.

but I’m not sure that the HS810 will work as you need the Audio gateway service.

Actually, I found a registry modification that allowed me to enable to headset service. I am using the HS810 with JSphone, and when I push the button, although I hear static on the 810, the Ipaq still dials out on the built in speaker… When I check with BTManager, it is listed that the 810 is connected on the out going. I have both the Headset service and the Serial service to come up with no authentication and auto connect.

Still lost!

Has the vendor (JSPhone?) been able to provide any insight?

I don’t think that there is an issue with JSphone per se. Because I should be able to hear something even if it is simple a beep from the 4550 over the headset.

Then you need to confirm which of the two devices is problematic. The presumption is that only one is the true cause. If you accept that as an axiom, then you need only attempt to pair the headset with another BT device (yours or a friends). Or, on the inverse side, if you were able to successfully pair another headset, then this would likely point the finger at your existing headset. This might be the easier choice, since you could probably find display/demo headsets at your local electronics store.

Where did you find the update? I have the HS810 bluetooth headset, the pairing works fine but there is no audio in/out?

and what model – do you have an HP laptop with ‘bluetooth by HP’. This is the update i needed for my EVO NC4010. This update will only work for the models specified. These models are specified towards the end of page. If you have something different , then you will need to look for a different update.

I have the same issue trying to make Plantronics M3000 work with skype on PPC. It seems that it is a well known issue with Skype on PPC which doesn’t support BT headsets. The only people I heard that were able to have it work is Laura and someone else in here, and it seems the headset is Motorola HS810/820/850. and only on 4700 ! Haven’t heard anyone being able to hook up a BT headset to skype on any other model … I did some research and it seems that Motorola HS 8xx series supports both BT stacks 1.1 and 1.2. Does anyone know what BT version is supported on Pocket PC 2003 SE ? that might answer some questions … Anyway, the skype forum is full with unhappy people … trying to achieve this … Laura, it would be greatloy appreciated if we could find someone using your BT headset on a 2750 and confirm it works fine with Skype.

cheers

well Jack has the 2750, with a HS820 and Skype – I’m assuming that he got this combo to work, but you might want to send him a private message and ask?

A long time ago (a year ago it seems), I had an Ericsson HB-30 (35?) BT Headset working with Skype, but I was only able to use it once because the hotspots I was trying Skype from were “iffy”. After that, someone stole the headset and I have yet to replace it.
