Animal Well: Release Date and Game Details Revealed
Indie publishing house Bigmode and Chicago-based Shared Memory unveiled the release date for their atmospheric metroidvania game, Animal Well, recently. The announcement was accompanied by a new gameplay trailer.
Release Information
Originally introduced in early 2022, Animal Well was expected to launch sometime in 2023. However, development extended into 2024. The game’s release date was initially scheduled for early 2024, following last spring’s announcement.
As revealed, Animal Well will be available for purchase on May 9th for PC (Steam), PS5 and Nintendo Switch, priced at $25. The local currency equivalent price is yet to be confirmed. The game will be fully compatible with Steam Deck at launch.
Behind the Scenes
Animal Well is the brainchild of solo developer Billy Basso. He began the project roughly seven years ago, devoting most of his evenings and weekends to it.
“A few years ago, I quit my full-time job to finish the game, and I’m proud of the end result. [Animal Well] was a passion project for a long time, and I’m excited to finally share it with the world,” Basso stated.
Game Features
Animal Well will enable players to explore a surreal labyrinth, populated with friendly and sinister creatures, while unraveling its many secrets.
Promising non-linear gameplay, Animal Well forgoes battles. Instead, the game encourages environmental and item interactions, offering elaborate sound and visual assets, dynamic pixel art lighting.
