Cool!

http://www.tomtom.com/support/right…hp?p_faqid=3361

if you scroll to the bottom, you can click “Send an Email” Here’s what I just sent them………. ________________________ Hello, I bought the HP hw6515. It’s the UK model, but I live in California, so it’s imported. I’d like to know if I can upgrade to TomTom Navigator 5.1 and if U.S. maps are then available to buy from you. Will this work? I have dozens of friends that need to know, so please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks, ~Jon

SIM Unlocked International 6515 w/no GPS software

PLEASE HELP! I bought an international english SIM unlocked version of the 6515 that doesn’t come with any GPS software. I live in New York and would be happy to buy software, but I don’t know how. I checked TomTom’s website, but they don’t offer 5.1 on the U.S. site. This forum is great, so I figured if any PAQers would know how to help it would be you guys (or gals). Thanks,

JASONF

I should have my imported UK 6515 tommorrow. I’ll try this upgrade and see what happens. The problem with tom tom is, you can buy U.S. maps, but when you goto pay for them, it’s all Euro’s and doesnt let you pick United States for the billing address! I want to figure this out asap.

I added more comments to my TomTom support question. Their system allows you to log in and view/edit. open tickets.

I just added: “When you try to buy U.S. maps for TomTom Navigator 5.1, the price shows up in Euro’s and I cant pick United States for the billing address. What are the options to make this UK iPaq 6515 work in California? I live in California, and my billing address it in Califoria. Will I be able to use the TomTom software that comes with this unit? Please let me know all my options so I can get GPS working right away.”

Awesome, ok now what are the options for us to load U.S. maps? If I buy the full DVD program, will it let me load U.S. maps? I’d much rather just download the pieces I need. Does the program let you update maps directly from the iPaq over GPRS? I also noticed TomTom doesnt have PLUS servies available in the U.S. yet (real time traffic etc) http://www.tomtom.com/plus/services/traffic.php?

I wonder if they are going to get serious in the U.S.or not. Maybe that’s why HP is having trouble finding a good U.S. GPS program to bundle.

Dave: It installed fine and I was able to open the program. I haven’t got any maps yet so I cannot confirm a fully working program. I keep you updated. Thanks,

Where did you buy your iPaq that came with no GPS software? I’m glad you could install TomTom from a vanillia plain ipaq. The problem with my imported UK version is, it already comes bundled with TomTom 4.?. The 5.1 upgrade is nice and all, but not if I have trouble getting U.S. maps. I’m fine with buying the full version, but I’m more concerned with helping all the UK to US importers here first, and using the built in TomTom if at all possible. I’ll let you know what TomTom support says if they resond tomorrow.

wow, that looks really nice. When you go to download a North America map, or other premium info, does it let you pay with an American credit card and in U.S. dollars? See what happens when you go through with a transaction. If it works, then we are all set and I’m happy/satisfied.

that not good! Another good test would be if someone could try to load maps off the retail CD or DVD of TomTom 5.

TomTom hasnt responded to my support email yet.

WOW, $19 for a single city MAP. That is rather expensive don’t you think? I want maps for each grouping of states like OnCourse Navigator 5 offers. The whole US is $199 bucks and that includes the GPS software too. If you buy (11) cities thats the same as buying the whole US.

Oh well, just wish HP would make some announcement on the US launch and push their units out the door to us.
