TomTom does not support the XV6600

I have been using TomTom on a PocketPC since the US beta in 2003. That was on my iPaq. Now that I have a XV6600, I email TomTom to see if they will be offering a cable for the XV6600. This is the response I got back: Subject I recently upgraded from my iPaq 3630 to an Audiovox XV6600. My cable that ca…

Response (Ben Willard) 04/07/2005 01:34 AM Dear Mr Swartzendruber,

TomTom Navigator is not compatible with the Audiovox XV6600. We do not have a cabling or cradle solution that will allow connectivity with our wired GPS receiver. You may also encounter functionality issues as our software is not fully compatible with any of the Audiovox models.

If you have any further questions please let us know. Regards, USA Customer Support

WHAT!!!!

I recently got a Seidio cradle so I could use my TomTom wired GPS receiver. TomTom USA works fine. I don’t know what this guy is smoking!

Chaper 2 … Earlier this week I received my Navigator 2004 update and tried to install it on my XV6600. Disaster! It would not fully install. Like the TomTom guy stated in my message above, TomTom is not fully compatible with Audiovox PPCs.

So I called TomTom tech support (which was an adventure in itself — it took me 10+ minutes of trying to find a way to submit a tech support question and only then finally finding there main phone number). I reached a really nice gal that had all the answers! She informed me that Navigator 2004 was a step backwards for most PPCs and that it really based on the Palm code platform. She suggested I stick with Navigator USA (previous version) for now. She also told me that Navigator 5 is due to be release May 15th and hopeully will be shipping by the end of May. I checked the TomTom Navigator 5 compatibility list and, while I do not see the Audiovox XV6600 listed, I so see the iMate PDA2K. The PDA2K looks exactly like the XV6600 expect it is GPRS, though iMate also has the PDA2KEVDO which is basically the XV6600.

So I am pretty confident that TomTom Navigator 5 will support the XV6600. We’ll just have to wait and see.
