Ubisoft’s open-world hacker action series “Watch Dogs” hasn’t seen a new release for nearly four years, but according to Deadline, it’s now preparing for a big-screen debut.
The production of this feature-length film inspired by “Watch Dogs” is being handled by New Regency Pictures, in collaboration with Ubisoft Film & Television, as reported by Deadline in an exclusive piece.
The film project will be directed by the esteemed French filmmaker Mathieu Turi, known for his work on “Hostile”. The script will be penned by Christie LeBlanc, who previously wrote for Netflix’s “Oxygen”.
Sophie Wilde, the Australian actress acclaimed for her performance in the horror film “You won’t be alone”, is also reported to be vying for one of the main roles in the film.
Whether the “Watch Dogs” adaptation is going to retell one of the game narratives or showcase an original story remains uncertain at this stage. The franchise revolves around hackers battling against ‘The System’.
Set in fictitious renditions of real cities, each game in the series presents different hackers fighting against corrupt corporations, crime bosses, and competing agents.
The original “Watch Dogs” made its debut in 2014, followed by “Watch Dogs 2” in 2016. The most recent release, “Watch Dogs: Legion”, was launched in 2020. The franchise boasts an impressive audience of over 50 million people.
