Insider Reveals Which Games Microsoft Plans to Release on PS5, Including Doom: The Dark Ages and a New Remastered Halo: Combat Evolved

Microsoft’s Latitude Initiative, a strategy to bring Xbox games to competitor platforms, has been elaborated by Tom Warren, Senior Editor at The Verge, in the publication’s news bulletin.

Latitude Strategy

The term “Latitude” for the new Xbox strategy was revealed by Windows Central in May. The publication reported that Microsoft’s leadership endorses the idea of no untouchable games, implying that anything could be ported.

Contrary to this, Warren reveals, there are still some untouchable Xbox games at Microsoft, at least for now. This category includes yet-to-be-announced games such as Gears 6, Fable, and South of Midnight, which he expects will remain Xbox console exclusives.

Games for PlayStation

Games such as Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, Age of Mythology (likely Retold), Starfield, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, are among those Microsoft is considering releasing on PlayStation, according to Warren’s sources.

Furthermore, Warren reveals that at Xbox, they are reportedly working on yet another remastered edition of the iconic shooter, Halo: Combat Evolved. The reissued edition, believed to be at an early stage of production, is also eligible for release on PS5.

Future Plans

Warren also shared Microsoft’s plans to release a new shooter game, Doom: The Dark Ages, by id Software. The game is reportedly part of the Latitude project and is expected to have a simultaneous release on both Xbox and PS5 in 2025.

Doom: The Dark Ages and Gears 6 are supposed to debut at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 on June 9. The release dates for Avowed and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, as well as the spontaneous release of an Xbox game, are expected at this anticipated event.
